Indy's paws quickly put distance between her and Skyline Ranch, her nose to the ground and tail held proudly over her back. Her mouth hung open as the heat beat down on her back, pink tongue framed by rows of white fangs. Her pace was brutal and powerful, a tireless lope that closed the distance swiftly between her and her quarry. She had caught the scent of a rogue sheep while going about her chores, and as any good sheep dog knows, where one stupid beast wanders more will follow. She would have to get the whole lot of them back before the sun dipped below the horizon. She was a good sheep dog, but no guard, and the wilds were no place for one as svelte and feminine as herself.
The ground began to slope under her feet, quickly rocking to a dramatic angle that caused her to slide along the loose dirt. She composed herself quickly, despite the undignified scramble, and came to rest along one of the many rocky ledges. She cast her head about, scenting for the fuzz butts she pursued, and the sudden flood of information sent her hackles ablaze down her spine. A soft growl rumbled from her chest as she sorted through the mess; cougar, bear, wolf, coyote. It was a veritable den of thieves down here...though far more hospitable than the hot sun above. Grumbling to herself about the possible merits of letting natural selection run its course, she continued her tumbling descent to come to rest amongst a feeble tendril of water that would be a rather nice stream come Fall. She lowered her slender muzzle to the tepid waters and sated her thirst, which improved her mood greatly.
"Where did the little buggers get to, then?"
She mused to nobody in particular. Indy was a dog that preferred to work alone, even under the constant threat of predators and sheep rustlers. Others tended to only whine or get underfoot. Such behavior made her irritable. Quite frankly, everything irritated Indy, which was part of why she was so indomitable. As far as she was concerned, life was one big pile of crap. The fact that she still decided to get up every day was impressive enough.

Rex trotted at a fast pace tracking a escaped ram and trying to keep up so he wouldn't loose it. His trot turned into a full out sprint after the ram. Rex soon heard a loud baa up ahead and slowed down, he slowly stalked towards the noise and soon found the ram. He lept out and bit into the ram's left hind leg and tugged on it. The ram baaed again and tried to turn to head butt the wolf. Rex heard a crack and let go, then ran around the ram and bit into its neck. His tunge felt the crimson liquid drip onto it and then pulled up, the ram fell down onto its back and Rex bit down harder. The ram took its final breath before letting a black wave come over him. Rex dug into his prize and once he finished layed down to sleep it off.
He woke with a start when smelled a dog, a low growl escaped him and heard that there were more sheep that he could hunt. Rex got up and knew that he could taunt the dog. He started to follow the dog's scent and soon found a den that it was resting in. Rex howled, then darted into the trees and hid in them waiting and watching the dog in the den.

The howl really should not have come as a surprise. She was outside the boundaries of Skyline, in a ravine known as Shadow Dance, chasing after a bunch of fool animals that looked to most other living creatures like hamburgers with legs, yet every time she heard such a call, it chilled her to her core. She knew the call of her wild cousins, those bastard creations that left her master's property strewn across the fields, soaking in their own entrails. She saw the wreckage they left behind them, the vile waste to their actions, the inherant cruelty in their movements. Even the cowardly coyotes could be deadly when in force, and she had heard tails of the guard dogs of how their calls would first be heard as if there were only one, then suddenly more would sound, and the guard dog would find himself surrounded. Those hulking brutes would be brought bleeding to the ranch to be stitched up by the owner's wife, and though they lived to fight another day, their opponents did not. But Indy was no such dog, her build was small and quick, her jaws meant to snap and threaten not crunch and maim. Despite the way that the beast's announcement of his presence chilled her to her core, she set her jaw tightly and continued on into the ravine, with hackles ablaze. She had a job to do, and Dammit, she was going to do it right! She slipped into the full shadow of the ravine, ears perked to catch the slightest sound that seemed out of the ordinary. Regrettably, most every sound here was out of the ordinary, so she spent most of her time shying away from shadows and snapping at birds as they took flight, walking on pins and needles, ready for anything. Indy herself had never met a wolf, and her understanding of them was enough for her to assume she didn't want to. She heard the soft baa of a ewe ahead, and with a sigh of relief her pace quickened, drawing her swiftly to the stupid thing's aid. As she crested the hill a snort escaped her nose, indignant and frustrated. The little ninny had managed to get itself stuck on a ledge. It's lambs were below it, milling about and casting a confused eye upwards to their source of milk, then looking about with fear. Heaving a sigh, Indy went about her business despite the somewhat unique situation, hustling the lambs together into a tight circle, all the while eying the mother and trying to decide just how she would tackle that problem. Who knew where the hell the rams had gotten to...Her owner would be much happier to see this healthy (though stupid) addition to his lamb crop returned safely home. ((Ugh. Sorry for the crap. Rambo got my good post on SA.))

Rex slipped into the shadows beind the dog and slowly stalked it, a baa ahead meant some sheep for the dog but to Rex it was a dinner bell. He followed her and there were some lambs and a ewe. Rex slinked towards the lambs, watching the dog round them up into a little ball. He slowly inched his way closer to both the dog and the lambs. The ewe baaed at her little babies below her, idiotic creature baaing at anything that upsets it. Rex howled to announce his presence and then slowly trotted towards the dog and the lambs. "Well, well, look what we've got here...a dog with little lambs?? Looks like lunch time." He growled as he started to circle the dog and the lambs. Rex lunged and snarled at the dog and baaing babies.
He kept circling looking for the weakest link, he saw one on the outside of the ball with a black head. Rex lunged at the lamb, his jaw quickly opening it jugular and bleeding it to death. He carried his prize away a little before dropping it and turning for the dog. "I'll be back for the rest..." Rex growled then turned back to carry his prize into the shadows. He layed down under a tree to eat the limp lamb.
