OOC and General
1. All characters belong under one user name. If you need me to make a gif for your signature so that all your characters are represented, please let me know.
EDIT: As of July 25th, 2008: You may create separate accounts for your characters as long as you provide an OOC account and a reference post on Character histories providing me with all of your character's.
Why?: Each of the different character classifications (strays, Long Mountain Dogs, Wild canines...) all have different display colors for their account names.
2. On that note, no signatures that stretch the page. Only one picture will be allowed in your signature and it should be in the ball park of 500 pixels long by 300 pixels high.
3. Read the administrator introduction. There is information in there that you are required to know in depth, that will only be skimmed over here.
4. If you wont be posting for more than two days, please PM those that you are involved in threads with and apologize. Let them know when you will be able to respond so they aren't waiting on you.
5. Absences of more than 5 days should be noted on the Absence board, along with dates that you will be gone.
6. No spamming. I will ban your IP address immediately.
Character Creation
7. Ensure that we are accepting purebreds, coyotes or wolves if you decide to create one. There will be a notice on the front menu.
8. Be mildly realistic. Not all of you are going to be massive ex fighting dogs that are super bad ass and also have a tragic past. Please don't make my eyes bleed.
9. I have been known to, and will reject characters, if they are redundant. Be creative and original. I encourage you to read other biographies to make sure that you aren't creating a cookie cutter.
Posting Rules
10. Our minimum is 150 words, but I honestly wont be counting. I am looking at content and not necessarily length.
11. Swearing is acceptable when it is part of your character, seriously have fun.
12. Recognize that I don't want a bunch of my rules to inhibit your creativity. If it is well-written I will take it. An example may include our long breeding policy. I will allow long breeding provided that it isn't overtly graphic.
"He slid into her as instinct guided him to and had forced him to do so many times before, riding her until the sweet release and they were knotted to tightly together, bound in sweat and their future progeny" would be acceptable.
"He stuck his thingy into her girl thingy and f**ked her brains out" would not be.
Same idea goes for swearing, internal thoughts, so on and so forth.
Breeding and Puppies
13. I will not have established breeding and birthing seasons, but I will make it a rule that each character may only breed and birth one litter (if female) per 5 months. Dogs are pretty prolific animals, and although some seasons may be a better idea to breed in then others, if you are a stray or wild canine, I will not require you to make good decisions with your character.
14. See rule 12 for our long breeding policy. You are not required to long breed by any stretch of the imagination, but I will not limit others because a few feel uncomfortable.
15. Force breeding is allowed.
15. Puppies will be due two weeks after your breeding, and will be posted to the delivery boards. Administrators will decide the health, appearance and sex of your pups along with some basic personality traits to build off of.
16. Puppies must be claimed for play within two weeks of birth, or they will go away in some tragic plot twist I'm sure you can concoct.
Fighting
How it works:
How it works:
All of your characters will have certain bonuses assigned due to their profiles that you will be aware of upon being accepted. Possible areas in which a bonus will be assigned include:
-Strength (comes with size and tenacity)
-Speed (dependent on size and breed)
-Agility (also dependent on size)
-Wisdom (comes with age and experience)
In combat, no matter what the combat may result from, for each of your "plays" a administrator will roll a 20-sided dice. Onto this "base score" will be added your bonuses inherent in your character, and an extra bonus if you have the higher quality posts (about 1 point adjustment) at the end. For every one of these attack rolls, an admin. will also roll a defense roll that is simply a 20-sided dice roll plus the bonuses of the opponent. If your attack roll turns out higher than their defense roll, then you hit. If it doesn't, they get a dodge.
Between every combat post an admin or moderator will tell you if you hit or they dodged, plus just how intense that hit may be (decided from the score of the attack).
In every combat each combatant gets three attempts at an attack. At the end, the attack scores that resulted in a hit will be totaled, and the combatant with the highest at the end of it will be declared winner. What exactly they win must be determined prior to combat.
17. Individuals may fight for possession of females or males, pack lands, honor, the usual.
Random Encounters
18. By joining Cowdog Up! you are admitting that you understand your character may be subjected to random occurrences. Such occurrences may include but are not limited to: severe and sudden weather changes, cougar encounters, bear encounters, human encounters. The encounter will not result in death unless desired by you, the player, but it may result in the injury of your character. A moderator or myself will play your opponent and give you an event. You, as the character, will react to the event.
19. If you would like to request a random encounter to further plot development, please PM Ido.
